I made a great 48"x48" work bench out of 3 or 4 used pallets perhaps 20 years ago. It's still the most used bench in my shop. It's the same height as my saws and sets in the middle of my wood working area. Double extra ugly but easy to work with. I never hesitate to modifie it, to make the current job easer to do.
